DfS3: Website Design

How Does Website Design Communicate Value?

With a solid brand foundation (see part 2), there are three areas in website design that I believe are critical: information, interface, and interaction. In reality, they have some overlap, but I have separated them here for simplicity.

→ Information includes the central storyline, contexts for various audiences, and content such as copy, imagery, graphics, data visualizations etc.

→ Interface includes the website architecture, navigation and flows, website pages and the layouts, sections and elements within them.

→ Interaction includes the human factors, such as the user journey, controls, motion graphics, CTA's, usability, and responsiveness.

While making this, I realized something interesting:

→ The space between information and interface is what communicates.

→ Between interface and interaction is what calibrates.

→ And between interaction and information is what converts.

There's also an outer layer of understanding, intuitiveness, engagement, actions, performance and analytics. These are user-centric qualities or platform-centric functions that help the stakeholders through their journey, making it as seamless and streamlined as possible.
